I couldn't, in my wildest dreams, have picked a better riding partner. Forrest was great and his company made me have a better time. The natural scenery we saw never ceased to amaze me. It's a shame that not many people in this country are aware or appreciate it. Maybe the act of just survival is too much. With that thought is the fact that there are A LOT of kids here and these are poor kids. Maybe it was the fact that we went when the Iraq war started, but many people were distant and somewhat cold. This wouldn't be case on future trips and I would fall in love with Mexico. |

| Gasoline wasn't a big problem. Pemex is pretty
much everywhere. You can only get premium in the larger cities, but the
bikes ran fine on 87 octane. I believe the gas to be of better quality
that the last time I was here. The last day we went by a couple of Pemex
distribution points. This is where the money is.
Finding a motel or restaurant that you feel comfortable in could be a problem in some cities. Get into a town early so you can look around and find a good one. A couple of times we arrived after dark and stayed at familiar motels (eg Best Western). Our favorite motels wereThe ones, except for Parral, that we stayed in were clean and comfortable. We ate in some very nice restaurants. I wasn't overly impressed with the variety of the food but enjoyed what I ate. At times it didn't sit well with me and by the time we got to San Miguel I was in bad shape. It was time to get back to the food I was used to. When we left the country I swore I was through with Mexico. As I'm typing this a couple of days later I thought I would go back. Forrest and I went to the consulate in Orlando and got the paperwork to send to Mexico stating that the bikes were back in the US. We also had to go to a police station to have this filled out properly. This would have been a lot easier at the border. Hopefully, this will be sufficient. It is possible that a fine would be levied against our credit card if it isn't. Without the paperwork, we couldn't take the bikes back in. I'm sure it will work out. Adios. |
