Sure, it would have nice to see the town. It
would also be nice to eat occasionally and keep it down. To add to my
misery it is darn cold and it looks like rain. We've been eating cherries
and now I'm staring at the pits.
The altitude is again over 6,000 ft and I'm tired of being high. I want
to get down low. I mean Death Valley or New Orleans kind of low. It ain't
happening and it remains cold.
Then it comes and with it a very surreal scene. I pull off the side of
the road and give back to Mexico the food I rented there. Forrest decides
to sit down and do yoga. We all reach consciousness in our own way. At
least I meet my new best friend, Pepcid AC. I think it's named after that
heavy metal group because this stuff rocks. Over the next couple of hours
it takes three pills, but I'm human again. Let's motor to Monterrey. |

Even though we are at the same altitude, there
are a lot more cactus as we head into the desert again. The cactus are so
prevalent and orderly they look as if they are being raised in fields, but
that's not the case. We are on the coata road dodging goat herds, cows and
burros. Limited access means limited to what's at hand. Unlike our
freeways or toll roads, you can cross over into 110 kph oncoming traffic.
That is especially interesting when you have a long slow truck. One we
passed didn't make it and was laying on it's side in the ditch. |

| The federalis don't seem that interested in us
today, although one really likes my GPS. Even though a long line forms
behind us, he doesn't care. I'm pretty sure it's driving them crazy and
you know, I just don't care.
On the way to Monterrey we travel through a great mountain pass. It's
just beautiful. One of the reasons to head to Monterrey is to see the
national parks. We are seeing the west side of one now. Nothing else is
drawing us to the city as the colonial architecture is not supposed to be
that prevalent. We go to Saltillo instead. This proves to be a great
decision because it is US south and we are ready to be home again. There's
even a nice Holiday Inn. |
 |
We are still tourists though and check out a series of town
squares. There is also a beautiful park that is getting a lot of use. The
town is surrounded almost completely by mountains and is a modern city. We
pay a taxi driver a couple of bucks to lead us to the motel, eat at Pizza
Hut and watch English TV. On the way to Mexico, we couldn't wait to
immerse ourselves in the culture and food. Now we can wait to be
re-Americanized. Tomorrow we'll be out. |
